Composer Eric Maltz, through his investigation into the relationship between sound and light, has composed a suite of 6 pieces for two pianos, Light Pieces. Using these pieces as sound sources, he then created the The Seed Of Time, which was performed live with the art collective Elephants & Volcanos in Altamura, Italy as part of The Seed of Time Installation. He then went one step further and created a ‘remix’ again using only sounds from the original six Light Pieces as his raw materials.

Each of the six Light Pieces is based on a specific color, and uses only notes that have corresponding wavelengths. The pieces themselves are absorbing, exact, and oddly beautiful, with a focus on extended technique, rhythmic variation, and silence. The Seed of Time was then created by using only the recordings of the six Light Pieces as it’s raw material. Through sampling and synthesis techniques, the piano recordings were transformed into The Seed of Time. The result is a unique and singular sonic environment. The Seed of Time (More Orecchiette Mix) continues to reference both the source material of Light Pieces, as well as manipulating and condensing portions from The Seed Of Time. It has a sense of playfulness and a beat that speaks to Eric Maltz’s NYC roots.

With this release Eric Maltz shares his entire compositional process, his investigative journey into the relationship between sound and light. The album is a step by step journey. This technique of involution and self-reference is one he will continue to use for future compositions.
