about

"Eric Maltz has taken a unique approach to songwriting, in which he chose to take singular parts and make them into a whole rather than starting with an album theme and breaking it into parts. The result is one of the most intriguing and immersive EPs I have heard in a very long time….Each song is different and will give you a different experience and interpretation; all together, they offer a glimpse into the mind of a true artist when freedom to think and create is exercised."

-Dimiera Harris - The Equal Ground

We Used To Be Free is a collection of songs by Eric Maltz. Beginning in February of 2013, Eric decided to write and release a new song for free download every month, until an album of 8 songs had been created. They vary in genre and scope, from solo piano to latin hip-hop.
Each single has it's own custom cover art create by Eric. The Album cover features a painting by artist and glassworker Michael Potecha.
